CCIE Wireless certifies expert-level knowledge and skill for building an extensible Enterprise WLAN.
Benefits of CCIE Wireless Certification:
- Provides greater opportunity for salary increase and job advancement
- Validates expertise in major aspects of wireless LAN technology
- Provides a stepping stone for individuals interested in a career in managing or working with Cisco wireless technologies
The Cisco CCIE Wireless certification validates that you have the expertise to design and manage wireless networks and to make mission-critical and business-critical wireless network decisions. It confirms that you have the job skills and technical knowledge required of an expert-level network IT practitioner.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. Other professional certifications or training courses are not required. Instead, you must first pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam. You are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics in the exam blueprints and strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience before attempting certification.
Exams
Step One:
You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam covering concepts and equipment commands before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam. The exam is a multiple choice test with 90-110 questions that will validate that you have the expertise to plan, design, implement, operate and troubleshoot Enterprise WLAN networks.
Step Two: CCIE Wireless Lab Exam
The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure and troubleshoot actual equipment and get the network running in a time test situation. You must make an initial attempt of the CCIE lab exam within 18-months of passing the CCIE written exam. If you do not pass the lab exam within three years of passing the written exam, you must retake the written exam before being allowed to attempt the lab exam again.
Recertification
CCIE certifications are valid for two years and must be recertified every two years thereafter to remain current.
To recertify, you must pass one of the following before your certification expiration date:
- Any current CCIE written exam
- CCDE written exam
- CCDE practical exam
- The Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview and the CCAr board review to extend lower certifications
CCIE and CCDE professionals that do not pass a qualifying exam or lab exam before the recertification deadline will be placed in a suspended status and their employers will be notified. If your CCIE or CCDE is suspended you have one year to pass the required exam or lab before their expert level certification becomes permanently inactive. Inactive CCIE and CCDE professionals lose all benefits and must pass both the CCIE written and lab or CCDE written or practical exams again.
Achieving or recertifying CCIE, CCDE or CCAr automatically extends your active Entry, Associate, Professional or other Expert level certification(s), or Specialist Certifications up to the expiration date of the latest CCIE, CCDE or CCAr certification achieved.
